Diet Recommendations for Fibromyalgia Sufferers
Fibromyalgia is one of those conditions that has stumped some of the most brilliant minds in medicine for years. The actual mechanism behind where fibromyalgia comes from has been something that hasn’t been able to be explained and is still one of the most heavily researched areas of modern day healthcare. While we do know that the nervous system plays a role in the diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia, there has also been a dietary component that I have noticed has really helped my patients in the overcoming of chronic pain, and stiffness associated with the alleviation of this condition that I wanted to share in case you know someone that suffers from this debilitating diagnosis.
How can diet help with fibromyalgia?
A diet high in magnesium has been shown to help in mediating and bridging the gap between muscular tightness, and atrophy associated with fibromyalgia. Because magnesium taken in high doses has been shown to be a heavy diuretic, and lead to frequent bowel movements if taken in excess, getting enough through diet is something I have seen be effective as I manage these patients in getting them results.
Great sources of magnesium in the diet are whole grains, legumes, and leafy greens, as well as seeds from wine grapes, and bananas. Another great thing to consider is ginger, which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, in a tea, a bath, or ingested in some sort of soup, basically ginger anything!
One of my absolute favorites to recommend; however, is a daily cup of willow bark tea. Willow bark tea has been shown to be as effective as a low dose aspirin for inflammation, without the side effects of stomach sensitivity, and kidney, or liver issues. This has been a remedy used by Chinese traditional medicine folks for decades and has been shown to be helpful.
However, if you are one of those that have exhausted much of these options, and more, and have not seen the results you are looking for, the nerve system could be the missing link to finding your resolve. At the Specific Chiropractic Center, we help these people every day receive results when nothing else has worked. We would love to see if you are a candidate for our care because if you are, healing can become a reality!
