Instant Gratification is Overrated and Outdated; Delayed Gratification is the New Norm
I’m an observer. As I reflect on the last year of practice, when it comes to people who are sick or in pain, there are two types of people I have observed and learned to appreciate in this world. People who are seeking instant gratification, and those seeking delayed gratification.

We all have seen these people. People who are looking for marketing ideas that will generate them 100 new leads over the next week for their company; or people who want to get rich overnight by creating an app, or writing a song; or maybe, those who are in pain and looking to get out of pain immediately or overnight. Whatever the case may be, there are THOSE people, and then there is a whole other rarer group of people who realize that there is no such thing as instant gratification, and in fact, they run from these types of solutions, because they simply are not believable, and do not exist in their worldview.

Quite frankly, there is a HUGE list of billion dollar companies that have made piles of money off this idea of instant gratification. Pharmaceutical companies, diet/weight loss pills, energy drink companies, and many others, but we know all of these come with a price; it always comes back to the old saying, “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

I, personally, love interacting and working with this rare breed of people that understand whether it is building a business, building a brand, or achieving resolve from a recurring or long-standing condition; the most important true measure of achievement is TIME. Time heals all, and usually the people that achieve long term and sustainable success or results for something, I’ve noticed, have come to grips with this concept.

Case in point, is the ability to retire. People who retire don’t just decide to retire, and then quit their job, and live off dividends the rest of their life. They have created a plan for retirement and have worked towards a long term goal of retirement, and have set themselves up for not short term gratification, but the long-term reward of being able to retire and have the means to do so. Your health is no different.

At the Specific Chiropractic Center, we look to align ourselves, and help those who also have this view towards their health. If we can identify the problem that has been occurring in your body over the last 10 years, that has led to the pain or problem, you have been experiencing, and keep it removed in 4 to 6 months; life can look a lot different for you. But again, the key is buying into the fact that anything of substantial and observable change will not happen overnight. But just like after a workout routine that lasts 6 months, and you’ve held strong too, results are visible. Take the path less traveled, and enjoy a much more beautiful view then the person who took the more convenient route. Take action steps today that help reach your goals months, and years down the road!
